About the city: Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, is located in southeast China. It is positioned on the lower reaches of Qiantang River and the southern end of the Grand Canal (Beijing- Hangzhou). It is only 180 kilometers from Shanghai (1 hour by train) and it is one of the most popular cities in China for its history, culture and beautiful sceneries.

Climate: Hangzhou is picturesque all year round despite its distinct four seasons. It is characterized as warm and humid with a decent amount of sunshine and a lot of rain. Spring and autumn are the seasons with the most pleasant weather. In summer, the temperature can be high up to 29 degrees. It can cool down to just above zero during the winter months, but the cold is nothing compared to Northern China.

Housing: A 1 bedroom apartment in the city center is around 3000-3250. A 1 bedroom outside the center will run you around 1500-1700. A 3-bedroom apartment in the city center, roughly costs 6000+ and outside the city center, around 3500+.

Food: A meal in an inexpensive restaurants costs as little as 10 rmb. In a mid-range restaurant, a three course meal for 2 can cost you up to 110rmb.Try this: Hang Bang Cai, DongPo Pork and West Lake Fish in Sweet andSour Sauce.

Transportation: Local transportation fare is 2 rmb for a 1 way ticket. Taxi fares start from 11rmb.
