Opportunities for teachers of all experience levels are available through Teaching Nomad in China.

More than ever before teachers from all over the world are coming to China to experience its unique culture first-hand. Headquartered in Shanghai, Teaching Nomad is perfectly position to help you make this transition to the middle kingdom.

Almost nothing is more important to Chinese parents than the education of their children and both the public and private sector is rising to meet the demand. Along with the spending power of the rising middle class there are now literally 10’s of millions of families that can afford to send their children to schools with native English speaking teachers. Across the entire country, in cities you've never heard of there is a demand for teachers.

Teaching in China has the potential to satisfy most everyone goals and desires. Whether it is having the highest paying job to save money or pay back student loans, work half days with long holidays to travel to places like the Great Wall of China or the ancient capital Xi’an or develop your professional skills in an international school environment, it is all available.

The fastest growing segment of education jobs in China right now is at the professional level. Instructors experienced in curriculums such as the American AP, British IGCSE and A-Level as well as internationally accredited programs like International Baccalaureate (IB) have a steadily increasing demand. Meanwhile demand for recent University graduates and less experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers continue way outpace the supply of teachers.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, the opportunities available in China can provide you a comfortable life while experiencing life in the Far East.

Where can I teach?

Cities in China are informally grouped into 3 tiers to give a broad reference to their stage in development. As China is a “developing nation” the development status of these three tiers varies greatly! The cities recognized as tier 1 are Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen & Guangzhou. Some parts of these cities could easily be confused with western cities. There are over 170 cities in China with 1 million+ people and dozens of them have tier 2 status. This means they likely have an underground metro system, an airport, high speed train station, definitely KFC (Chicken) and Starbucks is likely moving in as well! Tier 3 cities will certainly be more of an adventure for a westerner. With limited access to imported goods and few English speakers these cities will certainly grant you a full immersion experience. If you’re interested in learning more about tier 3 cities check out this blog from someone that taught there for a year.

Teaching Nomad has openings in all 3 types of cities stretching as far North as Harbin, near the Russia border to as far South as Hainan island in the South China sea and as far west as Chengdu in Sichuan province. The majority of the our schools are in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities but if you’re looking for a real adventure we do have tier 3 cities as well.
