Head Teacher


Reports to: Center Manager, Teacher Manager, and Academic Director

About the position:

·        Type of school: training center (age 5-12)

·        Location: Beijing  

·        Contract: 12 months contract 

·        Schedule: M-F, 11:00 am-8:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday, 9am-6pm. 2 days off must be between Monday and Thursday, need to work on weekends

Day to Day Responsibilities:



·          Be prepared for all classes and assessments, providing a model example for all teachers


·          Keep in contact with the Teacher Manager and Academic Director about changes and updates


·          Assist with communication in the center, creating a cohesive working culture for all


·          Encourage a positive and productive atmosphere that will motivate all staff members


·          Keep a healthy relationship with your Center Manager so that you work as a unified management team


·          Contact existing Head Teachers, your Teacher Manager, or Academic Director if you are unsure about ways to handle any issues that arise in your center

·          Keep track of the library and ensure that all coaches are conforming to Elan expectations


·          Assist with the development of the curriculum or manage those staff members who are developing


·          Be a key part of resolving any center disputes between staff members in a calm and professional manner

General Responsibilities:


·         Ensure that you are familiar with all aspects of the curriculum so that you can answer specific questions from teachers on any course that they are having trouble with

·         Familiarize yourself with the procedure that you should go through with a new teacher, having regular check- ins with them, helping them to organize their class folder, and assisting them with planning ahead.

·         Understand the warning system so that you and your Center Manager know what to do if a member of your staff begins to act in ways that are not appropriate by Elan standards

·         Meet regularly with other Head Teachers and your Teacher Manager so that educational standards and company policies are being applied uniformly across all centers

·         If your Center Manager notes that some or all of your staff are not completing something to the standard that we expect, you should run a local training session to resolve this issue

·         Do a formal observation for each teacher once per term and provide professional and constructive feedback

·         Complete an appraisal of each teacher once every six months and hold a meeting to provide feedback

·         Assist with recruiting teachers and coaches for both your center and other centers



·        Native English Language speaker

·        Bachelor’s degree or above

·        At least 3 years teaching experience, at least 1 year management experience 

·        Nationality: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South African

·        If nationality is not one of the above, the diploma (at least BA degree) should be issued by a university from the above countries.

·        Age: 30- 45 years old 

·        No criminal record and healthy


·        Salary: 22,000 RMB-25,000 RMB

·        Teaching hours per week: 18 teaching hours per week + office hours, 40 hours total

·        Housing: not provided

·        Health Insurance: Health insurance

·        Hotel allowance: up to 1200 RMB reimbursement after probation

·        Holidays: 11 paid annual leave, 11 paid national holidays, 3 days full paid sick leave

·        Airport pick up service 

·        Airfare reimbursement at the completion of 1 year contract (8,000 RMB )

·        Bonus: discretionary bonus after completion of 1-year contract

·        Legal work visa
